Monsoon season floods have triggered flash flooding and landslides in India's southern state of Kerala. At least 22 people have been killed with another 44 reported missing.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) raised the alert level to red for the Idukki district of Kerala as heavy rainfall of 200mm was predicted. Houses in the district were destroyed as the flood waters washed them away.
In the Rajamalai area, a landslide buried houses and rescue efforts are ongoing to recover people buried in the debris. The weather has hampered rescue teams as fog, rainfall and the threat of further landslide activity persists.
More heavy rainfall is expected in southern and eastern India in the coming days as the monsoon season reaches its peak.
