Tropical cyclone Sagar caused flash floods across Djibouti, with the worst hit areas being Djibouti City and the suburb of Balbala. Authorities have already reported that up to 30,000 people have been impacted by the storm.
Several arterial roads made impassable by flood waters have cut off traffic between Balbala suburb and central Djibouti City. The evacuation and temporary accommodation of displaced people has also been impacted as many schools and community centres have been flooded.
With water levels receeding the government has started a relief effort including firefighters alongside UN agencies to provide rescue assistance, tents and clothes.
Djibouti remains on alert as reports of another weather system forming which could impact the country further.
