Tropical Cyclone Idai passed over eastern Zimbabwe on 14 March killing at least 98 people with hundreds more missing. The death toll is expected to rise as authorities continue rescue efforts.
Zimbabwe's eastern Chimanimani district was the worst affected area. Displaced people left their homes to search for high ground and await rescue, but strong winds hampered helicopter flights and a landslide blocked access to Chimanimani town, leaving thousands of people stranded.
Soldiers have helped to rescue 200 people who became trapped in a school in Chimanimani. The United Nations in Zimbabwe said that nearly 10,000 people were affected by the cyclone.
