Hurricane Rafael swept passed the Cayman Islands on 05 November.
There was significant damage left on Little Cayman. The tropical storm downed power lines and left the island without electricity. The restoration process for energy to the island has begun. Boats were washed ashore or capsized, fallen trees and sand obstruct the roads making it difficult to get around. Recovery crews are working to clean up the island. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or deaths.
Sister island, Cayman Brac, had minimal impact. Recovery crews found debris from broken tree branches along roads. There were no obvious signs of damage to buildings.
Residents stayed in shelters until an "all clear" was issued after the eye of the storm passed over both islands at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, 06 November. Marine and coastal warnings remain in effect, and the public has been advised to avoid the coastlines.
