On April 23, 2025, wildfires broke out in Zabaykalsky Krai, Russian Federation, leading to a significant increase in both the severity and reach of these forest fires, which had impacted over 210,000 hectares.
The situation was worsened by rising average daily temperatures and wind speeds of up to 28 m/s, heightening concerns about the possibility of these fires spreading to populated regions.
In response, a Federal Emergency was declared to tackle the issue, and efforts began to identify and prioritize critical areas for intervention.
