Heavy rainfall caused severe flooding across India, with the states of Assam, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh being badly affected. At least 55 people are reported to have been killed and flood waters have affected over 2.5 million people.
Torrential rain across Nepal caused waters to discharge along rivers which then burst their banks in Bihar. People displaced from their homes have been moved to safer, sheltered locations.
The state of Assam declared an emergency as villages were cut off by rising waters and a major highway became submerged. Rescue teams have been deployed to assist displaced people, buildings were also reported to have collapsed trapping people inside.
Authorities deployerd rescue teams and the military as 90 percent of the Kaziranga National Park in Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam are submerged stranding groups of animals.
The state of emergency remains in place across Assam as the monsoon rains are predicted to continue in the coming days.
